Imperial Russian Opera: set of 4 postcards

These Imperial Russian Opera postcards showcase the set designs of the artists working at the end of the nineteenth, and the beginning of the twentieth century. They worked at one and the same time with the official Imperial Russian Theatres, with Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes, and with the private opera companies in Moscow of Savva Mamontov, and Sergei Zimin. The first four artists are: Konstantin Korovin, Boris Anisfeld, Nikolai Roerich, and Fyodor Fedorovsky.

Imperial Russian Opera Series 2: set of 4 postcards

This second set of Imperial Russian Opera postcards presents four pre-revolutionary artists whose work is not so well known outside of Russia: the set designs of Vladimir Yegorov and Ivan Bilibin both express a love of old northern Russia; Mikhail Vrubel and Apollinaire Vasnetsov show the byzantine influence of the exotic fairytale east.
