Imperial Russian Opera Notelets (available soon)

These notelets are from costume sketches made by the famous theatre artist Ivan Bilibin (1876 – 1942). Bilibin studied under the portraitist Ilya Repin, and as a member of Diaghilev's World of Art group, he produced many pen and ink decorations for its eponymous magazine. His first theatre work was also for Diaghilev's Ballets Russes, and he went on to work with Anna Pavlova, for Zimin's Private Opera Company in Moscow, and later many times with the Kirov Theatre.
